Product Description
Functions:
1. Engine Vibration Isolation: The primary function of the mount damper is to isolate the engine vibrations from being transferred to the boat's hull. This prevents excessive vibrations from causing discomfort for passengers or damaging other components of the boat. |
2. Protecting Engine Components: By reducing vibrations and absorbing shocks, the mount damper helps protect the engine and its associated components (such as the propeller shaft, steering system, and mounting hardware) from premature wear or damage due to constant movement. |
3. Enhancing Stability: The mount damper helps stabilize the engine, especially during acceleration, deceleration, or when navigating through rough waters. This stability enhances the overall performance of the outboard motor and the comfort of the boat ride. |
4. Extending Engine Lifespan: Constant vibration and shocks can lead to cracks, loosening of bolts, and wear on engine components over time. The mount damper reduces these stresses, contributing to a longer engine lifespan by minimizing mechanical fatigue. |
Maintenance Tips:
1. Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the mount dampers for signs of wear, cracking, or damage. Since they are made of rubber, they can degrade over time, especially in harsh marine environments. Look for signs of brittleness, cracking, or excessive wear. Common Signs of Wear: If the engine vibrates more than usual or if you notice unusual noise or instability, the mount dampers might need replacement. |
2. Keep the Damper Clean: Saltwater, dirt, and debris can accelerate the degradation of the rubber. After each boating session, especially in saltwater environments, rinse the mount dampers with freshwater to remove salt and prevent corrosion. |
3. Check Mounting Hardware: Ensure that the mounting bolts, screws, and other hardware holding the mount dampers are secure. Loose hardware can cause excessive movement of the engine, leading to accelerated wear of the damper. |
4. Replace When Necessary: Mount dampers have a finite lifespan and should be replaced if they show significant signs of wear or no longer perform their function effectively. We recommend checking the dampers every season and replacing them every few years, depending on usage. |
5. Avoid Prolonged Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the rubber to deteriorate faster. If possible, keep your boat covered when not in use to protect the mount dampers and other rubber components from UV damage. |
6. Watch for Oil and Fuel Spills: Oil or fuel can degrade rubber over time, so it's important to avoid spilling these fluids onto the mount dampers. If any oil or fuel does come into contact with the rubber, clean it off immediately to prevent damage. |
